August Meyerhofer married Rose (Rosina) Ewald July 31, 1888.20 They were married in the Zion Methodist Episcopal Church, Toledo Lucas County, Ohio. Their first child, a daughter, Elsie Dorothy Meyerhofer was born June 2, 1889.21 Their second child, a daughter, Anna Rosa Meyerhofer was born March 27, 1891.22

One month later, April 3, 1891 Rose (Rosina) Meyerhofer [EWALD] died of pneumonia, at the age of twenty-one.23 She died at 313 Field Avenue Toledo Ohio, her in-laws house. Rose (Rosina) was buried April 5, 1891, (section OC, block 66, grave #5515) in Forrest Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio.

One months later, May 28, 1891 Anna Rosa Meyerhofer, age two months, died of a fever at 313 Field Avenue, Toledo Ohio, the home of her Grandparents.24 Anna Rosa Meyerhofer was buried May 30,1891 (section OC, block 66, grave #5544) in Forrest Cemetery, Toledo Ohio.17 Anna Rosa Meyerhofer grave-site is unmarked. This must have been a very sad time for August and his parents. To lose two family members so close was a real tragedy.

One year four months after the death of his first wife, August married his second wife, Josephine Ulrich on August 30, 1892 in Cleveland, Ohio.25 Josephine Ulrich was born May 17, 1871 in Michigan. August changed jobs often and they moved many times while they were married. In 1892 he was a driver (of horses) for M. Seyfang & Co. and they lived at 537 Jervis Street. In 1896 they moved to 652 Thomas Street.

On October 23, 1896 August became a Citizen of the United States at the Lucas County Probate Court in Toledo Ohio.26

On May 14, 1898 August and Josephine Meyerhofer purchased lot Number 195 in Knower's Addition for $900.00.27 They moved to 414 Dix Street. August returned to the foundry in 1900. In 1904 he changed jobs and worked in a Creamery and they lived at 507 Crittenden Avenue until 1909 when they moved to 402 Knower Street. He returned to the foundry and they lived for the next 13 years at 402 Knower St.

In the 1907-1908 school year Elsie Dorothy Meyerhofer was a sophomore at Central High School.28 Elsie left school after her sophomore year, at the age of sixteen, and moved in with her Grandfather at 313 Field Avenue. She went to work as a clerk at the Toledo Rys and L Company. She left home in 1912.

August and Josephine were married 30 Years. Josephine died of a heart attack September 01, 1922, at the age of fifty-seven, at her home, 402 Knower Street, Toledo Ohio.29 Josephine Meyerhofer [ULRICH] is buried in (section 29, lot 307, grave #1) Woodlawn Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio.30

August Meyerhofer at the age of 59 married his third wife, Jennie E. Kime [COTT] age 50 on October 21, 1924.31 Jennie's father was John V. Cott and her mother was Albertina Vogle. Jennie was born in Buffalo, New York.

On May 22,1928 they transferred ownership of ˝ of lot 195 in Knower's Addition to Jennie Meyerhofer.32 August and Jennie continued to live at 402 Knower Street until 1929.

On February 8, 1929 August borrowed $500.00 from the Northwestern Ohio Saving Association for Lot #332 in Heather Downs, an addition in Lucas Co., Ohio.

On April 30, 1930 August and Jennie signed a contract to exchange Lot 195 in Knower's Addition for 80 acres of farm property near Adrian, in Lenawee County, Michigan.33

On December 22, 1931 the Bank started foreclosure proceeding against August and Jennie Meyerhofer for non-payment of the loan for Lot #332. The lot was sold at the Sheriff's Sale on February 19, 1932. Perhaps this was the result of the "Great Depression". August and Jennie Meyerhofer were living in Clayton, Michigan at this time.

August died June 16,1937 at the age of seventy-one, at the home of his sister, Bertha, in Cincinnati Ohio.34 He suffered from senility and hardening of the arteries. He was removed to Toledo and buried next to his second wife, Josephine, in (section 29, lot 307, grave #2) Woodlawn Cemetery.30 His grave site is unmarked.
