Florence Bertha Meyerhofer and Raleigh Blair Poindexter were married by a Justice of the Peace, July 29,1943, in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio. Raleigh was born April 16, 1902 in Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Kentucky. At the time of their marriage, Raleigh was working for the Packer Motor Company.

They purchased a home at 703 Washington Street, Temperance, Monroe County, Michigan. They lived there for their entire married life.

In 1945 Florence and Raleigh took in her mother, Bertha Florence Meyerhofer, and her brother's daughter, Elsie Dorothy Meyerhofer.
Raleigh left Packer Motor Company and opened his own tool and die shop.
His shop was in his garage, directly behind his house. He preformed various task for Toledo area business. Florence was a homemaker. Florence and Raleigh had no children of their own. They always had a beautiful vegetable garden

Raleigh was one of those unforgettable characters. He was self-educated. He was an avid reader. Raleigh read "The Wall Street Journal" regularly. He usually wore blue jeans and a flannel shirt. He seldom left his house or shop except to go hunting or fishing. He loved the outdoors.

He rolled his own cigarettes. Raleigh own one car his whole life-a 1936 Plymouth. He was a great storyteller. He once said he actually met Billy-the-Kid; a famous outlaw 70.
He would rub his hand together; stick out his tongue, and chuckle whenever something tickled his fancy. Raleigh had some pretty strong ideas and theories about a number of subjects that were really far out. Most were based on prejudices he probably learned as a child growing up in the South.

Elsie Dorothy Meyerhofer
Florence was busy raising Elsie and taking care of her mother. Florence never learned to drive a car. She very seldom traveled far from home. Occasionally she would take the bus to Toledo to shop or to Sandusky Ohio with her mother to see her mother's sisters.

Florence was a great baseball fan. She always listened to Detroit Tiger baseball on the radio. She crocheted doilies for a hobby. Florence started to keep a daily diary in the early 1940's.
Florence and Raleigh's house was the main meeting place for the whole Meyerhofer family. All her brothers would visit their Mother there. Usually they would play canasta or tripoli. Elsie attended Bedford High School. She left school and married at a very young age.
"Buzz" and Raleigh Blair Poindexter
Raleigh Blair Poindexter died July 29, 1978. He was cremated and his ashes were laid to rest in Temperance Michigan.
Florence went to live with Elsie Stevens [MEYERHOFER] in Battle Creek after Raleigh passed away. Florence loved to play bingo. She was very active in her senior citizens group for many years. Later in life, she suffered from Alzheimer's disease and was placed in a nursing home near Battle Creek Michigan.

She lived there until her death. Florence Bertha Poindexter [MEYERHOFER] died January 29, 1998 at the age of ninety-two. She was cremated.
