March 30, 1892 Herman Kaufman age 39, emigrated to the United States with his wife, Matilda age 38 and seven daughters. Adeline was 12, Bertha 11, Matilda 11, Minnie 8, Therese 5, Augusta 3, and Anna 1. An eighth daughter, Louise was born in Sandusky, Erie County, Ohio.

They traveled to America on the steamship "Weimar" which docked at Baltimore Maryland on March 30, 1892. There last permanent residence was the town of Kreislav Germany and their destination was Ohio. There were a total of 1,884 passengers of which 816 were from Germany. The Weimar was a fairly new ship, it was launched on February 09,1891. The ship was sold three times and was renamed each time. On March 15, 1918 the ship was torpedoed, shelled, and sunk by the German UB-67, thirty-eight miles southeast of the Porquerolles Islands.

Herman and Matilda were lifelong residents of Sandusky, Erie County, Ohio. They were married nearly 60 years. Herman and Maltida Kaufman both died July 14, 1936 within hour of each other. Each was 82 years old. The intense heat of the week is believed to hasten their deaths. Herman died at 12:50 a. m. and his wife Matilda in an adjoing room was informed and she died at 6:20 a.m. They are buried in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky, Ohio.
